Kelsi – DCSD Back in Action

Saturday DCSD is set to take on Clemson at Cannon Natatorium on Saturday at 1PM. It is our first meet of the season and I am super pumped! And nervous. I cannot believe we are already preparing for our first meet. It seems like just yesterday we were jumping in the pool for the first practice of the season.

Getting ready for the meet!

This is the third time I will be walking into Cannon Natatorium for the first home meet of the season. You would think I would know what to expect. But, I don’t. My freshmen year I went SUPER fast. My sophomore year I went SUPER slow. I’m hoping for some kind of happy medium. Although, I’d take a world record…third time’s the charm, right? I’m a little nervous about my performance, but I am so excited for the meet. It is our team’s first chance to gauge where we are and see where we need to improve. I really cannot wait to see the freshmen swim. They are always really nervous, because it is their first college meet. However, they always end up surprising themselves with how well they swim. I love seeing them finish their first meet even more excited for the season.

The swim meet is not the only event going on this weekend – we’ve got lots of games happening on campus. Tomorrow and Sunday the women’s soccer team is playing. Saturday, the field hockey team takes the field. We’ve also got some away games, namely football. The team is en route to San Diego for a game on Saturday as I type. I love being able to go support my fellow athletes. I especially love being able to see people I know, doing what they love and representing our school.

As extra incentive to go support Davidson Athletics our sports marketing group gives out “Pride Points” at home games. During the first half of any sporting event a sports marketing rep will be scanning catcards (our student id). Every game is worth 1 Pride Point. As you collect more points you can win prizes. 10 points gives you crazy hair, 15 lands you a t-shirt, 45 and you earn a sweatshirt. Sometimes they will add things like free food for students wearing red, double pride points if you buy a specific t-shirt, or free earrings to the first 100 girls. It’s really awesome! You get to collect some prizes while having fun and cheering on the Wildcats. If you’re lucky you’ll catch a glimpse of our mascot – The Wildcat. One student dresses up at him and no one is supposed to know who it is until their senior year. I’m not positive I know who the Wildcat currently is, but I have my suspicions. I’ve heard whispers of their identity :) Davidson may be small, but we have a lot of pride in our athletics. It’s such a gift to be able to represent my school and support others who do the same.
