So I’ve often asked myself the question: Why are their only 24 hours in a day. The reason being, there are plenty of times at Davidson where there are just a ridiculous amount of stuff to do, and not nearly enough hours in the day to do them. I know this is true for more then just myself, because I’m taking the words from a good friend of mine here at the college.
But enough of my contemplating, let me finish my update of a few weeks ago. Regarding the election? . . . I lost. And it sucks. I took it pretty hard . . . a lot harder than I should of because I felt like I worked my tail off campaigning, making flyers, involving myself in every aspect of Student Government Association (SGA) from the Academic Policy Committee to the Bylaws Committee. Am I bitter about the loss? You better believe it . . . I don’t think people turned out to vote, I don’t think they voted for any legitimate reason, I- . . .but i’m getting ahead of myself. After all, I have absolutely no right to say people voted stupidly because they didn’t vote for me: I’m sure everyone who loses gets all bitter and thinks that, at least for a little while. But whatever, thats behind me . . . they say when God closes a door, he opens a window. I just need to find it.
That said, Spring Break was absolutely marvelous. I spent a week in Florida, “Beach House”-Hopping with seven good friends from my dorm. The weather was a breezy 77, the pools were nice, the music I blasted in the car we road-tripped in was wonderful and my friends are even better friends than they were before. It was also a much needed chance to rest, relax, refocus and renew my goals for succeeding here at Davidson College.
Now that I’m back, I’m back on the daily grind of getting through homework and trying to balance work with a decent social life. My main issue, at least for the moment, is how am I going to get through the next two weeks. I’m joining a Fraternity, and process ends very soon . . . but at the same time, theres a lot of stuff I’d like to be involved in also going on over the next two weeks that make it just very hard. Hence the lamentation “why only 24 hours in a day.” I play Volleyball and workout twice a week, I try to see live music at least once a week, I try to go down the hill and party once or twice a week, and I try to have time just for hanging, homework and fraternity stuff all at the same time. Balancing it all is just becoming an awful process. That said, this speaks to the diverse opportunities available on campus. People with interests will find kindred spirits here, which makes it hard to narrow those interests down to the “core group” that you will always attend.
That said, I’m running out of time and I have some studying to do for arabic (reading backwards is sooooo difficult), so I gotta go. Hope you guys stayed tuned!
