Hi everyone, thank you for visiting our blogosphere.

I’m J.D. Merrill, a junior Educational Policy Studies major here at Davidson.  I have a deep passion for education and politics, which is why I built my own major here through our Center for Interdisciplinary Studies.

My hometown, Baltimore, Maryland, is largely responsible for guiding me toward both of these passions.

As a graduate of the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS), I’ve experienced first hand both the challenges and opportunities of an urban education system as well as the successes and pitfalls of urban education policy.

I hope to leverage my experiences as a former student “within the system” and my studies as a “scholar” of education policy outside of it, in a way that can positively impact future generations of students in Baltimore.

At Davidson, I’ve taken advantage of every opportunity to get involved in areas that will help prepare me for this charted path.

I’ve found myself discussing leadership theory in the Chidsey Center for Leadership Development, representing my class in the Student Government Association, and working off-campus to help elect education focused leaders to political offices.

While my story only presents life at Davidson through my eyes, I hope that you are able to get a sense of what it means to be at Davidson in a way that is meaningful for you, through my narratives.

I look forward to sharing my journey with you.

Enjoy,

J.D.
