Common Hour Lecture: Religion and the Law Panel Discussion

History Professor John Wertheimer moderates this panel discussion exploring First Amendment issues. Religion Professor Karl Plank and attorney Brad Kutrow serve as panelists.

Wertheimer specializes in legal history and modern U.S. history and he has collaborated with Davidson students on several articles regarding North Carolina’s legal history, as well as on the book Law and Society in the South: A History of North Carolina Court Cases.

Plank teaches Biblical Studies and Jewish Literature and Thought, and currently teaches a seminar on Religion and the Law, with a focus on first amendment issues that have emerged in recent cases.

Kutrow represented Davidson College in the State v. Yencer case, a case that raised a First Amendment challenge to the college’s right, as an educational institution affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), to employ campus police.
