After searching for the past several weeks for a legitimate topic, Professor Miller and myself concluded that writing about blogs would be the best option. My ideas so far are to either look at blogs as a legitimate source of investigative journalism, to look at the effects of blogs on politics and see where it takes me, or discuss how to determine the legitimacy of a blog. My question is where should I start and where should I go to find some solid information?

Hi James,
Since you're still trying to determine your focus regarding the use of blogs, I'd suggest starting with some books. Try searching the keyword blogs in the library catalog. There are 16 hits simply on the term and include books on blogs and the future of American politics,, reality blogging, and the use of blogs. Some of the books are in print and you can check them out; others are available through ebrary, an electronic collection, and you can "check them out" to your virtual space, take notes and highlight them. Also try a subject search for blogs, and look at the subheadings (ex. Political aspects.)
For journal articles I'd suggest starting with the Web of Knowledge (from the library's Indexes & Databases page). Try a topic search for "blogs and politics", or "blogs and journalism". Some of the articles I found were "Credibility and the use of blogs among professionals in the communication industry," Which types of news story attract bloggers?", and "Blogs, politics and power: a special issue of Public Choice."
As you decide the direction you want to go, please come by the reference desk, and I'll be glad to offer some additional suggestions.
